Hand baggage allowance

Size restrictions

Monarch customers can use their hand baggage allowance in two ways: one piece of hand baggage no bigger than 56 x 40 x 25cm or two separate pieces of hand baggage with a combined size no bigger than 56 x 40 x 25cm. A small duty free bag is also allowed from the departure airport.

It’s worth noting that you must be able to fit your bags into the baggage gauge at check in, including handles, pockets and wheels.

Weight restrictions

As with the size restrictions, Monarch customers are allowed 10kg of hand luggage, which must be distributed between one or two bags.

Checking in excess hand baggage

Passengers arriving at the check-in desk or the boarding gate (if they’ve checked in online) with too many pieces of baggage, or baggage that is too large or overweight, will have to check them into the hold. A fee will apply and this will be higher than if you had booked extra hold baggage in advance.

Checked baggage

Checked baggage fees vary according to route and season of travel.

Number of bags permitted

The amount of checked baggage each Monarch customer is allowed to take on-board their flight depends on their booking and encompasses the route, fare and ticket. The best way to check how many bags you’re allowed is to log into your online account where you’ll find information on your allocated personal allowance.

Weight restrictions (per bag)

Customers are allowed 20kg, 23kg, 26kg in one bag, or 40kg in two bags of checked baggage and this differs depending on route and season of travel. Any checked baggage that exceeds the weight allowance will be charged per kilogram over the allocated weight. Bags over 32kg must be shipped separately as cargo.

Charges for checked bags (again these may vary depending on time & point of purchase)

When checked in online Monarch charges between £15 to £36 per piece of luggage over the allowance. Any excess luggage paid for at the airport will require the same fee plus a £5 handling charge.

Excess baggage

If your checked baggage exceeds your allocated weight limit, you can purchase excess baggage in advance of travel. This excess baggage can be bought in bundles of 3kg up to a maximum of 12kg with each kilo costing £10. The weight of any single piece of baggage cannot exceed 32kgs.

Outsize or unusual baggage

Monarch allows for the addition of sports equipment to your baggage. Each item incurs a fee. Golf clubs, bicycles, skis and snowboards, will be charged between £25 and £28.
